A combi boiler is a combined central heating boiler for your radiators as well as an instantaneous water heater for your hot taps. So you have a central heating boiler and the second you turn on your hot tap it diverts all of it’s energy into heating up your tap water for baths etc.
A combination boiler does away with the need for tanks in your loft and an airing cupboard full of a large copper cylinder, pump, diverter valves etc as this is all in a space saving box that hangs on the wall.
Generally speaking combi boilers are very good and the combis we’ve fitted over the last 7 years we haven’t had any complaints about. A lot of problems that we’ve encountered with other peoples installations are to do with the way that the boiler has been fitted. For example. If a system has not been cleaned properly, which is quite likely if your system was previously converted from a system boiler to combi.
To stop these problems Boilers Boilers Boilers like to clean our systems with Fernox cleansers and Magnacleans or though the magnaclean is optional, the cleansers and inhibitors of the Fernox brand are not and would be used on every boiler install.
The other problem can be the dreaded lime scale that you hear a lot about on TV adverts which can coat the inside of a boiler but there are lime scale devices that we use on our combi installations that comes with the £1500 pound offer.
Whether your having a system boiler or a combination boiler (combi) it will be a condensing boiler or a condensing combi. All modern boilers are condensing to get them to meet the government efficiency scale standard of SEDBUK (seasonal efficiency of domestic boilers in the UK) all boilers sold by us are either SEDBUCK A or B.
Without getting too involved, it means that when the boiler burns gas, its so effient that a water vapour becomes present in the exhaust gases of the boiler, like a steam, or condense. When a boiler is condensating it’s a good thing because it should waste less heat which in turn means you burn less gas. If you burn less gas you’re not creating CO2 carbon dioxide which saves the environment and your wallet.
A system boiler is a more traditional style of system where you have a separate boiler, pump, diverter valve/s, tanks (generally in your loft) and what is known as an airing cupboard where you’d have a copper hot water cylinder.
There are a few variations on this though as over the years central heating design has improved a lot.
Some systems are called:
- Gravity hot water systems.
- Y plan
- S plan
- Back boiler
These are the 4 most common types and generally if you have an Y or S plan system we can stick to the £1500 offer. If however you have a Gravity or back boiler system these usually entail a lot more work either with having to be able to pipe up correctly or having to re-site the boiler in the case of back boilers. But do not let this discourage you This isn’t necessarily the case, as I’ve said before everyone’s house is different. Our advice is to arrange an appointment for one of our highly experienced surveyors to see what you want, our prices are always very competitive.
No, we will generally change most pumps or diverter valves for new with our £1,500 price if your system qualifies but this is subject to our survey.
Easy! We don’t charge you for what you don’t have. So if you’ve qualified for the like for like boiler change of £1,500 we would take the price of these parts off.
Yes we would change it but this would have to be surveyed, measured up and then quoted for first. This is because of the varied sizes of cylinder, cylinder cupboards and other obstacles like shower pumps etc. Again ask for a surveyor appointment.
